    Better Groups At Distance

I spent my whole career in science and actually made some amatuer improvements to modern ballistics by discussion on this forum. I really like this guy's closing remark because if you don't have at least a small open door in your mind that you could be wrong, you're not going to learn anything...

Exploding Pellets - Squirrels - YT

Am I the only person who thinks that there is a safety issue with the back stop and the houses in the background. If it is lethal enough to kill a squirrel it can kill a pet or child in the adjacent backyard. A person was arrested for doing this kind of thing. I agree it looks like a lot of...

    Bullet recommendation for 6x284

As just mentioned by Gary, 105 Bergers or 115 Bergers will work. I have had success with 115 Bergers in a custom 8 twist 240 Wby at 1000 yds for antelope. Wind is a big factor in Wy at the longer ranges. Under 500 yds BC doesn't matter with the velocity you can achieve. And most importantly...

Odd - primers blown out bolt jam

Oil, cleaning solvent, or water in the chamber or on the brass will cause that. Letting a round sit in a hot chamber for a couple of minutes will also increase pressure. With a hot barrel, if a round is not fired wiithin 30 seeconds extract and put in a new round.

    Highly Reduced loads?

Cast bullet shooters use reduced loads all of the time. https://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?242378-IMR-4064-Reduced-Starting-Loads-For-Cast. But the criteria is there has to be a "listed max load" for your cartridge for IMR 4064. I have tried it in a rifle case and IMR 4064...

    240 wby

The issue with a factory 240 Wby is the twist rate is 1-10. You need a 1-8 twist for 105 and heavier bullets. If you are onlly going to shoot 400 yards and or do not load your own bullets then you can get by with the factory 1-10. Some people may tell you that a 1-10 will stabilize those...

    ISO 7mm 160 AB

I have 3 unopened boxes of 50ct 7mm 160 ABs and an opened boxed of 21. All are part number 54932.- i.e. white tips. I tested them out in my 7 AM but never used them hunting. I would be happy to swap them for one or two bxes of 100 small rifle primers, preferrably CCI 400s but any...

    Leupold VX 3i 8.5-25X50- 1st or 2nd focal plane.

If you are just plinking it does not much matter. What I have found is that having shot 2nd focal plane scopes for 50+ years, I do not need the extra memory problem of a single FFP scope. I try to have all of my scopes uniform so I don't to remember very many individual things about each scope.

    .25-06 vs .25-06AI

I have a 257 Wby with a 8 twist barrel and I shoot 130 gr and 142 gr bullets with it. At one time these bullets were available from a guy named Richard Graves AKA Wildcat Bullets. It is impossible to predict what bullets might become available during the life of a 25-06 but as was mentioned...

    .25-06 vs .25-06AI

You should consider an 8 twist barrel. t will do everything a 10 twist will do plus if you decide later on to use long bullets you are good to go.

    My personal range limits

If you hunt much you will wind up wounding and losing animals. I have done it with rifles bows and shotguns. Even if it is only a dove I look for it a long time and am sad if I can't find it. With the right equipment and practice 1000 yards is not a big challenge especially with pronghorn...

    Long range hunting scope

Like I said before I have a Vx3 lrp 6.5X20x 50 on a 240wby and I have killed 5 or 6 (or more) antelope at ranges between 800 and 1100 yards with it. It is very reliable and has served me well. The antelope in the picture was killed at 1006 yards. But the real issue issue is what kind of...

    Long range hunting scope

The question is what are you planning on shooting at and how far do you plan to shoot. You don't need to spend $2K to shoot deer sized animals at 500 yards but if you are planning on shooting small creatures at 500 yards then perhaps glass quality and adjustment quality become important if it...
