Because of all the man bun memes and typer snipers 😂😂
I built my first one so long ago my gunsmith had to buy the reamer for my barrel because nobody had requested one before. Now a guy could open up a barrel shop with only a Creedmoor reamer and make a decent living.
We're going to Quinten Tarantino this story by showing you the final rifle and how it's shooting and then you can read below for the full build story if you're interested.
My love affair with the 6.5 Creedmoor started over a decade ago when I purchased one in a Savage Model 10...
7.7 twist will be fine. If your SA is a model 7 length you should change it to a Defiance Medium which is the equivalent of everyone else's short action. Defiance should have changed that naming convention a decade ago.
I've run my XTR3 for a while now with zero tracking issues. I used the 30x model to kill two rock chucks at 1200+ yards last spring with my 223. I've been very happy with it so far. The Race Dial is a nice addition too if you want to write on your turret for competitions or to mark different...
Kahles MOAK is my hands down favorite.
The NF MOAR F1 and Burris MOA reticle in their XTR3 are very functional as well but I prefer the small floating dot of the Kahles.
I went with a lightweight titanium and aluminum suppressor and in hindsight I'm not sure that's what I'd do. For a high volume rimfire suppressor I now know that I'd prefer to have stainless steel baffles so I could just toss them into a tumbler to clean them instead of hand scraping/brushing...
We used two 7mm cartridges to kill spike elk back to back at 965 (incorrectly says 970 in the video) and 1125. The closer elk was shot with a 180 ELDM out of a SAUM and the further was with a 195 Berger and a 7mm Rem Mag. That same same was used later to kill a cow at 1040.
It definitely does not require a custom build, but a fast twist barrel is a must for the longer/heavier bullets. I wish I had put a precision long range 223 together a decade ago.
A few of us took our 22s out and shot some Dum Dums at just shy of 100 yards. The reactive targets provide a lot of fun and the size of the suckers makes them quite a challenge at that distance. A quality 22lr is such a great training tool to get more trigger time in.
