I will let you know. We are about to attempt just this. Building a 308 on a long action Savage. I have a 1.25" no taper barrel and a choate tactical stock..
I may know Sunday but more likely a week or two.
Well guys.. 73.5gr is working just fine.. 3 shot 100 yards groups are in the .2 or .3 MOA.. drops out to 1350 yards tells me it is between 2900 and 3000 FPS..
So it seems to be working fine for me..
Thanks for the input..
Anyone have any experience with these components they would like to share??
I am loading for my Savage actioned, Sharp Shooter stocked, Shilen 33" barreled 300 Win Mag rifle..
Any suggestions??
Thanks Gentlemen..
Bill
Hi guys... I am considering jumping on the 7MM band wagon and getting either a 7MMX300WSM, a 7MM WSM or a 7MM RSAUM.
I will shoot 180 to 200gr bullets and would like to use a long action repeater.
What mag system would work.. any of the RUM based mags?? Any feeding issues that need to...
I too would like to know just how opening up an action to large shank weakens the rifle?? I can understand the reasoning that the action is weaker as there is less metal.. Isn't this more than compensated for buy the extra metal in the barrel??? Hence why Savage went to the large shank on the...
Buy any long action Savage and have the barrel machined to std threads.. it is inly a 1/16 of an inch difference.. I am currently doing this as I got a great deal on a 6-6.5X47 Lapua barel but it was large shank.. Dropped it off at my buddies place and should have it next week...
Just my opinion.. but my 25-300 win mag ended up a 6.5-300 win mag.. and my 25-308 ended up a 260 AI...
6.5 has a much broader bullet selection...
again just my 2 cents
OMG .. not what I wanted to hear.. I just ordered a mcgowen prefit as he had them on sale (about 1/2 the price I pay up here for a similar Shilen).. Oh well worst comes to worst I will rechamber and I am rethreading anyway to fit a std shank.
I really love the idea of a 25 cal..
But every time I decide it is time to build one I run into the same issue.. Poor bullet selection.. There are no really heavy weight bullets available that I have found a steady supply of.. 120 seems to be about max weight.. If I jump 7 thou in bore...
We have had really good luck with shilen drop ins. I have a Pac-Nor on my 338 Lapua Imp and a Mcgowen in 6X47 Lapua on the way.. Once I get them up and running I will see how they work..
