Neck tension and max bullet grip force

I always turn the necks, although with Norma or Lapua it wouldn’t be necessary. I didn’t turn necks for The weatherby In question, but they were surprisingly concentric.

Neck tension and max bullet grip force

I would opt for a smaller bushing rather than trying to crimp a non canalured bullet. I use Redding S bushing dies for all my rifles and have got the same or better accuracy with tighter necks in all of them. Years ago I would have expected the opposite. I’m trying to get a friends .300...

Neck tension and max bullet grip force

I’ve also found weatherby calibers to like .003 to .004 tension better than .001, sometimes drastically. But I’ve always wondered why

    Copper fouling

CLR? I use it all the time on plumbing fixtures etc. Never on a barrel. First time for everything. Here goes...

    Copper fouling

Couple questions about fouling in a friends rifle I’m trying to make shoot: I’ve found Over the years that stainless barrels are a lot easier to clean and defoul than moly. But this one (25+ year old Douglas moly) is giving me fits. I’ve used alternating treatments of copper remover and powder...

    Best one man tent

This seems like a good place to ask: anyone have opinions on their favorite one man tent. It needs to have rain fly and floor. Right now the best I can find without a hands on look is the Hilleberg Akto 1. It’s pricey but if it stands up to wind and stays dry it’ll be worth it.

    Fire forming issues

Thanks. I thought I had the neck resized only to where the new shoulder would intersect but maybe I went too far. What brand of brass do you have?

    Fire forming issues

This is kinda embarrassing because I have a feeling it’s gonna turn out to be operator error somehow. When fire forming 300 WSM Norma brass in a 7MMWSM chamber, approx 1 out of 5 primers showed extreme flattening but no distorted firing pin dents usually associated w pressure and no hard bolt...

    6.5 Creedmoor 120gr "coyote" bullet?

Don’t want to hijack, but in my search for a long range FUR FRIENDLY coyote (and occasional wolf; I’m in AK) bullet I came across the Lapua 144 gr FMJBT. In fact that bullet has just about got me to build up a 6.5 instead of a 6XC. Anyone use them?

    Barrel Suggestions

I was afraid of that. I’m not that savvy. Guess I’ll have to learn HOW to spec a reamer.

    Barrel Suggestions

I just learned the PacNor factory burned down. My best wishes go out to them and I hope they rebuild. I understand that’s questionable. Now that my favorite barrels are unavailable, I’m looking for suggestions on good barrels. One thing I’d like is to be able to spec throat dimensions to leades...

    Nightforce NX8

Have any of you seen one with the MOAR F1 reticle. Their site shows two: one with a 30 minute scale and a post at the bottom and one with a 40 minute scale and no post. I was wondering which one comes on the 2.5-20.

Ballistic Turret vs Hold Over Lines

Im glad someone else brought this up. Until I started spending serious bucks on scopes I never saw one that would track reliably. I’m not talking just 1/2 Moa or so. More like 3 to 5. My "good scopes" years ago were all Leupold VX-3s that I still love, but dialing to compensate was out of the...

    range finders?

Agree on the Leica. My 1600B is several years old. Got it when they first came out, it’s very small, has been wet a lot and submerged once, ranges to 1999 yds in perfect conditions, 1200 in any conditions. The only con is kind of a non issue: the library of trajectories doesn’t match any...
