Help me understand the importance of measuring velocity for reloading.

Honestly, measuring velocity is of paramount importance in reloading, especially for long range. Velocity consistency is the only real measure of your individual reloading practices. Most often, and only with rare exceptions do you find a load with excellent consistency in velocity that doesn't...

Difference between Lapua and Strelok app ?

Slower isn't necessarily bad, but you are correct, even though the drop is predictable, the longer the bullet is in flight, the longer the wind has to act upon the bullet. Of more concern would be the vocoty of the bullet when it gets to the target, if it is a hunting rifle. Be sure to check...

Difference between Lapua and Strelok app ?

I think your drag model is wrong. Change both to G7 and manually input the published BC. The suppressor will change your point of impact slightly between when it is on and when it isn't, but the Velo that it adds is somewhere between none and not much. Certainly not enough to change your dial...

Difference between Lapua and Strelok app ?

At that range, and at those velocities it would seem plausible that the difference in BC would make that much difference. If you input the same BC value but in different drag models one bullet would be close to half as aerodynamic as the other in the calculation.

Difference between Lapua and Strelok app ?

Did you possibly input a different drag model (G1 vs G7)? Or even if you didn't purposely input that value, sometimes it auto-populates to one or the other.

    Finally @ Distance.

That looks like double hearing protection and SPF 50 face lotion territory! Awesome success!

New ADG 6.5 PRC brass not chambering

If it were me, I would invest in the proper sized headspace comparator bushing to take a proper measurement of the fired brass and save the money with the gunsmith. Use the reamer print or saami spec for the cartridge to determine if the fired case falls within the specified dimensional size and...

For those who have done it...

I've built dozens of rifles using the remage style arrangement. In every case, the rifle outperformed the factory barrel, significantly. I have yet to assemble one that won't shoot 1/2 moa. Most are better with finely tuned handloads. I believe that you are asking if installing a remage barrel...

    MDT LSS Rem. 700 Chassis

I am looking to build a rem 700 short action pistol. I'm looking for a chassis that will accept a barrel that is 12" Long and accepts an AR buffer tube. The MDT LSS (not lss XL) looks to fit the bill.

    Critique my Setup

Need comparators for both headspace and bullet seating, a bullet puller, and something to anneal cases with. A plumbers torch tip and a 1lb can of propane (I like the yellow Mapp gas). Everything else looks good. If you are just getting started, following the directions that come with the dies...

How much do you value brass brand consistency when reloading?

I have used different brands of factory reclaimed brass over the years with good success, but I never ever load mixed brands with the same load expecting the same results. Here is what I would do if I were you and wanted to use factory brass. 1. Take the brand that younhave the most of and...

    338 WSM....anyone tried it

Maybe Im having a brain fart, but I am not aware of or seen anyone mention a factory chambering or wildcat rendition of the 300 WSM in a 338 cal. Has anyone done it? How dis it work out. Seems like it could be a real good performer! Yes, this post represents where my mind goes when allowed to...

    6.5-7 PRC vs 6.5-300 PRC

I have shortened the barrel on numerous rifles recently and have gained back most if not all of the velocity losses by switching those rifles to copper monos. Three things contribute: 1. Less engraving pressure makes more velocity. 2. Less weight needed in good quality monos that perform as...
