7mm bullets for long range hunting. who has good luck with what?

Get you a box of either 175 smk or 180 smk. Very easy to make shoot and they kill very well.

    Bill and Lerch's Elk Adventure

Sorry I'm late to the party. Been busier than a one legged man in an *** kickin' contest!! Load for my AX is 100.5 gr retumbo pushing the 300 gr bullets about 2960 fps. Shot this bull w/the new 300 gr Berger and wasn't that impressed. Didn't get much expansion at all. I've shot several deer...

    H1000 or Retumbo ?? 280 ackley

Are I necking up 270 win brass? If u are and the bullet is seated below the neck body junction that donut may be causing u problems.

    H1000 or Retumbo ?? 280 ackley

56 gr shows you at 46,000 psi on quickload. Dump some more powder in that case. I wouldn't want to go much over 60 gr according to quickload though. Be careful and work up. This is just some #s based on a computer program. Just watch for the primer to crater around the firing pin, heavy...

    H1000 or Retumbo ?? 280 ackley

I think both r too slow for that bullet cartridge combo. H4831 should ne the ticket. Don't worry so much about flat primers. That is subjective. Worry about heavy bolt lift, cratering of primer and ejector marks. I will run it on quickload tomorrow and see what it says for pressure. I bet...

    Bill and Lerch's Elk Adventure

Well it's been awhile since I've posted but Steve and I just got back from an elk hunt that I have to share w/you guys. It all started several years ago when we began to buy points in WY for elk. At the time we had no idea where we were going to go or even if we were going to go. As luck...

338 Norma Review By Ward W. Brien

No hard feelings here. I know it can be hard to interpret emotion from the typed word. I'll be the first to admit I probably wasted money trying to improve something that is already so good but only bullets in the air will tell us!! I will let you know.

338 Norma Review By Ward W. Brien

Man Ward, chill out a little. If no one was trying new things we be stuck in a rut. Heck we might all be still shooting a black powder rifle. I'm not saying that this 35 degree shoulder on the Norma case is going to change the course of history, but it's different strokes for different folks...

338 Norma Review By Ward W. Brien

Well that's not a very adventurous attitude! :) I know it would work and be cheaper and easier to just go w/the standard Norma but that is kinda boring to me. Always gotta be trying something new!! I will let you guys know how it works out once I get some lead in the air.

338 Norma Review By Ward W. Brien

It will be on a desert tactical chassis. Jon Beanland will be doing the bbl work. If I really like the DTA I may do some other calibers and do some safe cleaning on some other guns ;)
