    Browning B78( miroku)

I have one, a heavy barreled rifle in the .270 wcf. This winter I want to make it into my sheep rifle. That means making it lighter and shorter. Possibly an aftermarket synthetic stock. The chambering is ideal. Does anyone make after market stocks for these rifles? I would like to spin a...

    Backpack Rifle

I have never built one, but prefer a carbine style rifle anyways. I really like a takedown rifle, something I can put in a backpack or saddlebags. I am a sheep hunter and in my middle 60's- compact is key to me

Getting in mountain shape with no mountains around?

I don't have that issue, we are on the west slope of the Rockies but If I had to pick one exercise it would be climbing stairs with a pack on ...outside. In the heat, rain and cold.

    270 WIN BEST POWDER ELK

I have sufficient RL 26 in reserve Reloder 16 also works well with the lighter bullets as was designed to be temp stable. I have found Reloder 26 stable.

    270 WIN BEST POWDER ELK

Some great new powders, seldom use the 4831's or 4350' s anymore. I chrono over 3000 fps / 150 Nosler Partitions with Reloder 26 from a 22" factory barrel. Pressures are reasonable.

Gun writer statements that are no longer applicable or you don't agree with.

Y'know, John Barsness is very good as writer. I don't seen any exaggeration and his information is often useful and fresh.

Hi David, you are correct. I remember reading Elmer's stuff as a kid and thought most of it was nonsense. Ross is an ace.

    Best 7mm cartridge?

Clear as mud...my vote is the .280 Rem, I don't care for the short /fats and it has got to work from a 22" barrel. 2nd is the 7 x57.

    Shot Distance For Bighorns

That would be my limit, they have to be evaluated so closely, their eyesight is superlative and most wait until they get up to feed before making a move on them. Hurry up and wait and study the basin is my style.

Recent grizzly attacks on Montana elk hunters

Yes, SSS is a factor, but around the farm they smell humans on everything and are ready to flee. I think hunters get into trouble cow talking in an elk patch, I have called them in like this- some come in like a freightrain( on the ambush) Grizzlies also come into rifleshots. A guy in a...

Recent grizzly attacks on Montana elk hunters

I live on land in a high density Grizzly area, we get them around the house, barn etc. Grizzlies love chicken and grain, they don't bother the cows or horses but will claim deadstock instantly( it seems) They sure can year into a chicken house or a Grain bin, seem to love dog food...

    Thoughts on Lever Action

My second post on this. I have sold off the Marlin's and the model 94's .The last two were a Remlin 1895 GBL 45/70 and a Winchester 94 A/E .356. I found them sub standard. I would like a Miroku made 94 takedown and am looking for a Miroku 1895/ 270 win. They are as rare as Henry's teeth. The...
