    In Stock @ Midway

The going rate brought more out of storage/hiding. Unhindered economics at work is a beautiful thing!

Bass pro shop has bought out sportmans warehouse !

I viewed SW as the least crappy of the big box stores. BPS is just gross. Now is the time to back the small boys. Remember that Cabela's started out as mail order. There are several online guys who are much closer to what Cabela's used to be.

    Scope Levels- Why?

I should have clarified that the two axes are parallel only when viewed from above. When viewed from the side, it is a different story. See my post above with diagrams.

    Scope Levels- Why?

Agreed Canadian Bushman! This is what I have been saying the whole time. Yes, levels are a must for long range.

    Scope Levels- Why?

J E Custom, I get what you're saying. It is a problem with an easy solution. Instead of making the bore axis and optical axis converge at your zero (scenario 3b), make the bore axis parallel to the optical axis (scenario 3a). If you have a 10 degree left cant, then at 100 yards (or 200 yards)...

    Scope Levels- Why?

What the math and geometry are saying is that the compensation you speak of can be all of 0.3" at all ranges (from muzzle to infinity) which is approximately one bullet diameter. This is hardly a problem when one considers the advantages that I stated above. I have yet to have someone...

    Scope Levels- Why?

I independently arrived at the exact same results as LRNut after I couldn't figure out the .xlsx he emailed me. If LRNut is saying there is zero vertical error to this setup (reticle level but the rifle canted) then we're on the same page at this point. Further, there is a method whereby you can...

    Scope Levels- Why?

The attached six pages of illustrations attempt to help anyone who is interested in seeing what is going on with the following configurations: Scenario 1: Optical axis and bore on same plumb-lines; reticle plumb (page 1) Scenario 2: Optical axis and bore on different plumb lines; reticle not...

    Scope Levels- Why?

LRNut, I'll take whatever excel doc you're using. We can compare notes. I want to be able to explain well, but without a 3D modeling software to video output, it is difficult. I'm sending you a PM with my email address. I hope no one sees what I am writing and thinks I think cant is...

    Scope Levels- Why?

This is for a canted reticle, while not commenting on bore/optical axis relationship.

    Scope Levels- Why?

I have thought about this for quite some time. I wish, as another poster said, that it only took me a few seconds to figure it out. I am not quite that brilliant. But alas, if you zero properly, and your reticle is plumb, you'll be good at all ranges. This is not personal, nor is it a match of...

    Scope Levels- Why?

I am not certain how much he cants his rifle stock, but I know his his scope reticle is plumb (repeatably so due to his bubble level). I am certain that our mutual friend has a pronounced cant to his stock and he rings steel out to 1300 yards all the time. It is not a theory. I know exactly...

    Scope Levels- Why?

I used to be convinced that bore, optical axis, and reticle all had to be "in line" on mathematical/geometric grounds. I insisted despite my mechanical engineering brother telling me I was wrong. I should have listened to him. But then I finally figured it out for myself. Those whose natural...

Do you put anything between your rings and scope tube?

The idea that rubber cement of all things would help in any way is laughable. If you've worked with rubber cement before, you know that when it is 'set' it still has movement and elasticity. There are plenty of applications where this is desirable, but scope mounting isn't one of them!
