    .25 06 with SHORT barrel...

Grant A, You are certainly WELCOME ! But....remember.....It's only One-Man's opinion. ( MY opinion ) I also like the 30 caliber ! MY FAVORITE rifle of ALL TIME....is the Military SPRINGFIELD 30-06 (sporterized) BEST to YOU ! :) ---56Wrecker---

    .25 06 with SHORT barrel...

Grant A, Fully understand. I have done considerable handloading myself. A faster powder would be, I think, NECESSARY in a short-barrel rifle. There are numerous SHORT cartridges (with heavier bullets that have excellent ballistic-coefficients) that would be MUCH BETTER choices than 25-06 in a...

    .25 06 with SHORT barrel...

My MAIN hunting rifle for many years was a 25-06 Ruger Model 77 Bolt Action with the 26 inch, heavy "Varmint" barrel. VERY ACCURATE ! However....were it ME...planning a "short-barrel" hunting rifle.... I would select the 7 X 57 Mauser. You'll get MORE "knock-down power" and a larger variety...

What Happens When Firing a Round Without Powder?

I certainly AGREE with you. maybe...just maybe...ONE of the reasons that we NEVER had anything STUCK in the barrels was BECAUSE...... ....we also shot "candle-wax" instead of the T-Buck (in the SAME shooting sessions). We would pour some Candle-Wax ( and perhaps ? some other lubricant like...

LR low recoil 6.5 or similar

Ha-Ha !!! I don't know nuthin' about "Willy Peter"..... I was only suggesting a .257 Roberts. Whatever "Willy" OR "Peter" do.... I certainly HOPE that they DON'T do it around ME !!! :D Ha-Ha !!! ....just a SLOW Old Man...now.....but..."Once-upon-a-time".... oh...nevermind. BEST to YOU !!! :)

    .25 06 with SHORT barrel...

George, I suspect that you will find ( with Chronograph measurements ) that you are probably equal or somewhat LESS than the velocities of a .257 Roberts. (which I consider a FINE caliber in the hands of a GOOD shooter.) HONESTLY...let US know WHAT your results are ! I LIKE the .257 Roberts...

Degrees Of Rifle Accuracy by Ian McMurchy

It has been quite a few years since I have done much shooting. BUT...prior to that...I did MUCH shooting and reloading and making bullets..lead AND jacketed. ...and a LOT of Hunting in Colorado and Wyoming. I've seen some QUITE ACCURATE "off-the-shelf" factory rifles. NOT "Benchrest" accurate...

LR low recoil 6.5 or similar

Bounty Hunter.... Regarding your ORIGINAL QUESTION about which Caliber Rifle to recommend... I would heartily suggest a .257 Roberts....which will give you almost what a 25-06 will do. (Although I personally would prefer a simple 7mm Mauser...which has somewhat better ballistics and a tad...

    .25 06 with SHORT barrel...

Unless you have a particular reason for a short barrel and a Suppressor..... I'd rebarrel the rifle with a LONG THICK HEAVY (Varmint-Style) barrel .... .....so that you can get "full-value" from the 25-06 cartridge. Otherwise ...you're just shooting an under-performing rifle. just the opinion...

What Happens When Firing a Round Without Powder?

Well fellas....I've got a little different story and a different experience with a cartridge that contained ONLY a Primer and a projectile (NO POWDER). Here's MY Story: We were both "reloaders". We would put the primer into the brass case....but put NO POWDER..... Then we would put a T-buck...
