.243 makes a poor/non compatible round for a AR15 platform or a CZ527 action for example. In these platforms The 6mm ARC with her fast twist tends to shine better than many might think. Worth a closer look IMHO. Thus far I have liked this cartridge for deer with a 108 gr Elite Hunter @ 254 yards...
Sounds like fun, though as much as I like the 6mm ARC, for the task at hand I think a 20 cal may do better. If it were me, I'd be thinking 20 Vartarg, 20 practical or 204 ruger w 39 gr Sierra BK's.
Expect you will really like the 6mm ARC. I have used a howa Mini & a CZ 527 barreled to a 22" 6mm ARC.
108 gr Elite hunter has been one of my better cup & core loads over 29.4 gr of LVR. Also have done well with 87 gr Absolute Hammer over 8208 XBR. Last season I was liking the 90 gr CX over CFE...
Know this is an old thread & the desire to save pelts has diminished. Though I was surprised to see little emphasis on bullet design in either or both caliber / chambering's. A good share of the bullets made for harvesting fur & keeping pelts arena longer offered.
I feel either chambering may...
Broke down & ordered one, Showed up today. 75% charge showing out of the box. Charged her up & made it out this evening to test some 20 VarTarg loads. 30 rounds detected thus far. Simplicity & reliability has been quite impressive thus far.
Roughly 10 days a year here. Strictly deer & almost exclusively whitetail deer. Probably 8 days archery & 2 days rifle huniting on average . In the event I fill my Archery deer tag early I am generally bummed to wrap up that season early. Rifle hunting has been mostly a meat hunt for me over the...
When I was opting to go 20 VarTarg, A number of guys were encouraging me to look in to the 20 Practical or 20 Tactical. with these 3 in mind I would say the Practical is the EZ button. sounds like you only need to decide on bullet weight & barrel twist. I'd recommend a 10 or a 11 twist to allow...
Carbon defiant 34 here for me. Expect there are others as good or better out there. Can't afford to try them all & fortunately I do not have to as I am extremely satisfied w the CD34.
Suppose that is a factor I never put much stock in. I think more along the lines of QKE.
My quick kill experience with calibers small & large is rated something on the order of how many seconds till last breath. With proper shot placement, seldom takes longer than 60 seconds after impact. 6mm...
Too much, No! more than enough, Most likely so! Too much recoil for you & others? perhaps. 80 mm is more than enough, I am guessing you can achieve your intended goals with less. I am a big believer in the notion that frequently, less is more!
6mm Arc has not been out there for very long in the big picture. Yet I am interested how this chambering is being received as a deer hunting option. I have been utilizing the cartridge in a 22" barrel CZ 527 for 3 years now. Five deer taken from 100 yards to 254 yards with none traveling over 80...
