Which powder and how has the terminal performance been? Main use deer or elk?

Tagging in. I’m waiting for a barrel to put a 338-06AI together this summer/fall. I will probably load up a lighter HHT when they release it. I would like to run something in the 175-185 gr weight.

I’ve shot the 25-06AI and currently I am using a 25-284. I like both of them. The 25-06AI was as built years ago and had a 10 twist barrel. The 25-284 has a 1-7.25” Helix6 25” long. I’ve only shot the 131 BJ so far. R26 gets me 3160 FPS. I don’t think you can go wrong with either of these, or...

Those are good velocities KH Outdoors. Especially with a 22” barrel. Curious what velocities I’ll get with the 210 HHT out of my 23” 338 RUM.

I agree you must be close to pressure. I ran the 115 vldh out of my 25-06AI at 3350 using H1000. 7828 SC got more speed but it was to temperature sensitive. 26” Krieger 1-10”.

What powder are you going to try?

A 175-185 gr would be great I think in the 338-06AI. Guess I better order some 210 HHT for the 338 RUM.

I’d be interested in what you find. I stop in Winnipeg at the biggest store every once and awhile. Never much for bourbon, but sometimes a decent selection of scotch. I’ve never even seen Rare Breed on the shelves here. I’m very close to the states so I shop when I’m down there.

That’s quite the haul! Don’t think I’ll ever see any of those bottles in Canada.

Try a google search of Sherman wildcats. I believe there is a load data page. I haven’t used the site in a long time, so I’m unsure if it’s still there. Just be sure to look up the right data. Lots of variations of 6.5 Sherman. You want the original based off the 270 Win.

Forgot to add in my post #6 above that the bullet used was a 140 VLDH. I found N570 worked good in the 6.5 Sherman. Only load I really used. Barrel is done now and making it into a 338-06AI for something different. Have you looked at the load data on Sherman wildcats page? Should be some...

I used N570 in my 6.5 Sherman with a 28” Hart. Got me 3339 FPS.

My 338 RUM came in at 10 lbs with no ammo or sling. TiPro brake really tames the recoil.
