Favorite uncommon calibers

I did pheasant hunting in North Dakota one year when the brush was taller than my waist. By noon I could not lift my legs up. I prefer quail hunts in South Texas, except for the rattlers

Was just looking at midway USA they have a lot of brass for cartridges that I haven't seen in a while. But the prices makes me cringe. Anyway I've always wanted a sxs with 16 gage and 28 gage barrel's. But unfortunately I'm not rich. So I've got that going for me.

Not much brush in southern Saskatchewan at all, just straight bald prairie for the most part. There's supposed to be rattlers in the south of the province and North Dakota as well but pretty scarce. They are there tho, along with those tiny little cactuses that can ruin your day haha. Nothing like the reptiles and cacti in texas no doubt.

My other "odd balls" are mostly wildcats with some in Contenders and some in rifles. Then there all my sabot and paper patch loads for rifle and handguns, and the odd ball custom brass shot shells for the various handguns.

I have 9x21, 9x23, 9x25 Dillon, and 400 Corbon.....I just don't consider them very odd ball.
I also forgot to mention 9mm Super/38 Casull. I have one of those too.

Likely the oddest is my .30 Carbine Blackhawk. Not an uncommon caliber, or an uncommon firearm, but put the two together and it's pretty uncommon. Those of you who like fireballs at the muzzle need to get one!

This a good resource for common and uncommon cartridges. History as well as some reloading data.

There are other reference books available, do a little searching and start your library.

Hmmmm, when I had my GS business and CZ announced they were dropping the 550 Safari Action and because I had my FFL, I bought 5 standard 550 Safari actions and bought the full gamete of CZ USA custom shop rifles except the 500 Jeffrey & 375H&H.
So, I had 416 Rigby, 404 Jeffrey, 458 Lott, 450 Rigby & 505 Gibbs. The only one I have still is the 416 Rigby, really liked the 404 Jeffrey but it had to go along with my business. Had a 318 Wesley Richard's for a short time too, the ammo was still cordite and I didn't like it much at all.

Bob Milek helped make Petersen's HUNTING a fantastic magazine back in the day. Lots of DIY stories and stories by guides. Now it is nothing but paid endorsements. I wrote a story for them in their 25th anniversary edition but today, if you aren't selling, you are writing.

I have a Ruger 77 MKII in 257 Roberts, and a Savage 111 that I rebarreled (after reaming the chamber) in 257 Roberts AI.

Brass for both rifles is PPU (PVRI Partizan) 7X57 Mauser.
Simple run through a 257 Roberts full length sizing die. Load and shoot.

Looking at the list presented, my oddball/obsolete seem fairly mainstream.

250 Savage
257 Roberts
257 Roberts AI
25 WSSM
257 Weatherby Magnum
7mm-08AI
7X57 Mauser
280 Rem
284 Win (hunting rifle, not match)
7mm Weatherby Magnum
30 Carbine
