best 300 win mag round for deer

This load works in my 300 Win Mags.I don't find the recoil of my 300 Win Mags that bad.I have three without brakes and two with brakes.Of course the ones with the brakes have the lightest recoil.My sporter barreled Remington 700 CDL has the most,but it has the Remington Limbsaver pad and it's not too bad at all.The two Sendero contoured barreled ones are really pleasant to shoot.If you find your 300 Win Mag has too much recoil and hurts you,do something about it.If it hurts you,your not going to shoot it well and can cause you to develop bad shooting habits.A lot of the time just changing the recoil pad makes a big difference.A different stock can too and of course a brake.

With all due respect, I don't build my rifle loads based on my friends. My properly braked 300wm allows me to spot hits. I could care less about what my friends think my rifle sounds like. Plug your ears or go find new friends. . Friends, leave your purses at home when the rifles start to bark!

I'd go with a standard cup and core bullet for white tail. No need for bonded or copper. In fact you are better off with the cup and core on a rather thin skinned white tail. When I have used my 300 prc for WT I personally like a Hornady 165 gr. Interlock at medium velocity. Performance has been stellar. Remington Corelokts are similar.

I have had good performance in other calibers from the Federal Fusion line. In an 11 twist like in the Tikkas, the Fusion 165 grain 300 win mag at around 3060 fps should be a relatively comfortable round to shoot and reasonably priced. Reloading will of course give you more flexibility.
In your 10 twist you can go heavier but it will shoot the lighter bullets just fine.

Well if it's an ankle biter than you shouldn't have an issue with how loud it is when braked! They all bark, just some of the little guys that don't pack much of a bite!

Yes the little guys don't have much bite…..especially in an 11+ pound rifle package. But, their bark can be quite annoying to company! memtb

Crank the winnie up, brake it and enjoy. Those who complain about loud noises when shooting guns need not apply. IMO

1st post of the thread, boom done covered it.

To the OP, come back and tell us what you decided to do and how it's shooting for you.

I shot quite a few with Speer 165g btsp and Hot core out of my sendero!

If you go 180g, the Sierra BTSP and Speer 180g BTSP with 71g of IMR 4350 shot great in my sendero! The 180g Ballistic tips are tougher than either of the two above bullets. Make sure the mag box floats in that Sendero, and bed the action if you can.

That would be awesome on a lightweight (sub 8 pound all up) 300 Winney…..unless you leave the barrel long for maximum potential performance, or want it for pole vaulting over creeks! memtb

So many bullets work fine on deer in a 300 WM. My number one pick for you is 180 Ballistic Tip for deer and shooting, or 180 Accubond for elk up and or everything.
