Isn’t there a way you can put something temporary in front of the lug to see how it affects tune before trying? I remember reading of this approach to relief bedding. I’d imagine if you’re hand loading you could tune regardless but for factory ammunition it might be beneficial
The AH’s without the plastic tip work excellent. I’m not going to wait for the plastic tip if they’re not ready by hunting season. I don’t expect a huge difference in the absolute’s? Maybe with different cartridges?
We don’t get the wind because so many trees but gongs out to 600 is pretty easy. Nice thing about the hammers is they don’t fall out of tune easily. Will be fun to see your video
I think barrel life will depend on your shooting style and loads. I’ve used mine a couple times in 600 br competition ( tied for first and placed 2nd) and it’s 10 rounds in 10 minutes but otherwise it lives a mild life. Best I’ve done is a .308 size hole 5 shot group at 200 meters with berger...
Easy button for me would be a weatherby vanguard in a weatherby cartridge and whatever premium ammunition they used to test fire. They have the 257 and the 300 so dialed in, if you’re just using for hunting, I wouldn’t even bother reloading
I’m not sure what cartridge you’re working with but in some there’s a pretty significant gain in velocity. I forgot about the 90’s I loaded in an old beater 25-06 vanguard. Cheap scope and still hitting gongs at 500 meters with a holdover and nothing else sounds like a fast little solid hitting...
Didn’t use the absolutes in the 7mm. Cant remember which one. In both the 270’s, a brown medallion and an older savage ( not sure model) the browning was hitting a 3” gong at 500 meters (545 yards) and we shot the savage out to 600 in about 8” in some wind and mirage. The savage is a buddy’s and...
My 22 creed is also the most accurate rifle I’ve ever shot. It’s funny Hornady still doesn’t recognize it in their load development information considering its growing popularity. Mine is around 22 pounds and a child could shoot pop cans all day at 5-600 yards in decent conditions
I believe the 7mm was 1-11. It’s an older rifle of a friend’s. I believe I still have the information written down if you really want it. Not sure what your goal is but hammer bullets are extremely easy to tune so if you’re curious, a box of 50 and a good powder will get you to 500 easily with a...
