Land ownership timeline? (BLM to private)

It would be interesting, and alarming if Nevadan officials were starting to use the Utah playbook, and also to see where and what is being scooped up and by whom. With most prospecting gone Utah is now a state built by developers, for developers to the point that they’re starting to...

Land ownership timeline? (BLM to private)

Thanks for the polite suggestions. Lots of cogent adult behavior around here. All I did was point out that I know how swapping generally works but it is still a purchase by a developer in the end.

Land ownership timeline? (BLM to private)

SO they traded 1500 acres of worthless sage scattered in small chunks all over the West that had come from railroad holdings way back for three gorgeous mountaintops overlooking the great salt lake with graded access just 5 miles off I80. Or they traded landlocked acreage they bought for...

Land ownership timeline? (BLM to private)

there probably is but it's most likely a notice in a print newspaper or some godforsaken token like that. That's miserable. I grew up where there was no public land and that was normal. Someone would buy a property, kill the easement, put hazards in the trails. Similar to the ranchers, landlock...

Land ownership timeline? (BLM to private)

yes, more of an analysis of a legal proposition than an article but from what I can see that's the general idea. Anti-fed, gimme gimme gimme so i can make money off it.

Diagnosing long range errors: Bad RF?

Bought one to try, definitely worth knowing about that. I had not cleaned it. Even though I have the zeiss wipes I’m paranoid about damaging lenses by rubbing them, I should get one of those pen brushes. Can that scattering cause consistent but bad results? Sun was relatively direct, at about...

Land ownership timeline? (BLM to private)

It’s often not up to date, but oddly enough the house I rent was sold and the new owner was updated on Onx in a few days. Not relevant, just funny

Diagnosing long range errors: Bad RF?

Oddly it's harder to use at close range, even though it works. It works okay for archery but it may or may not want to pick up a bag. But I suspect that's a normal problem because the range users diligently apply a duct tape square to all the bag targets. Long distance you tend to get no signal...

Land ownership timeline? (BLM to private)

You got that right. Yeah, I feel differently than most folks on here on a lot of details, but I understand the conservative point of view, and used to live by only that. But I don't know what's conservative about getting the state involved with taking resources from the commons and giving it to...

Diagnosing long range errors: Bad RF?

yeah I've had surprisingly bad gps results in the past, I use it weekly with my dog. What about after the fact using a mapping system? No matter how I gerrymander the locations I can't get them as low as I ranged them. When I use 2 different mapping systems to measure, I get a distances the same...

Diagnosing long range errors: Bad RF?

That is second on my list o fthings to chase down. The answer is that I'm not very confident. Kinda did it in a hurry with a bad setup. All 3 rifles got rescoped and I forgot to zero them well during load finalizing. I usually prefer the zero to be about a click high, maybe 2 if MOA, to be very...

Diagnosing long range errors: Bad RF?

If it’s useful, this is what I was looking at. The one on the right looks more obscured than it was, but the nearer hillock is at about 400y instead of “550”, so that would stick out. The one on the left is super open. Could it have been dirty or a lighting issue? Both were completely...

Diagnosing long range errors: Bad RF?

yeah, it's only 6x which I wanted for archery, but it's pretty squirrely on the desert. But I can still usually pick out individual rocks at 600 or so. And hit them, generally. Especially in staggered, layered terrain. I don't know what is going on now.

Diagnosing long range errors: Bad RF?

It's a little fussy but it has in general passed this test, including a few minutes ago. Like I said, the truest point is sort of the bottom of the reticle, but when tehre's a huge difference in media it's going to pick up the strong signal throughout the reticle. Ten minutes ago it agrees with...

Land ownership timeline? (BLM to private)

It is a major part of life here in Utah. For good and ill. Many thousands of acres a year. Very rarely the grab is so egregious that people get annoyed and put a stop to houses being built on a destination waterfall hike for example, but usually it's without question. Randy Newburg had a good...
