AR10 (.308) opinions for inexpensive shooter

I stay away from PSA. You can do this for about $1000 https://www.aeroprecisionusa.com/m5-20-308-ss-complete-upper-atlas-r-one https://www.aeroprecisionusa.com/m5-complete-lower-receiver-w-magpul-moe-prs-lite-stock Or what I do is order all the pieces and get better triggers...

    Higher velocities with annealed brass

I was taught that neck turning made all the difference from a person that had the national record for the 30 cal for a short period of time in the 1000 yard meets. RCBS doesn't sell my exact machine anymore. They broke it into the neck turner/trimer and a separate chamfering inside and out...

    Higher velocities with annealed brass

In higher pressure rounds with big case volume you end up with a certain amount of brass flow. I bought the RCBS machine to do inside and outside neck truing along with trimming and chamfering.

    Managed a double yesterday morning

I had to look up the BRA to find out exactly what it was. As an 11 year old I was given a 22-250 where I lived was marmot country. You have a very nice rest.

    270/7RUM. Finally Finished. 👍

Awsome build. I've never seen fluting like that. I was wondering if the fluting was the opposite direction of the rifling or does it even matter to barrel harmonics? I used US869 in my 30 inch 30-378. I was shooting Pre Reloader 33 and Retumbo was kinda the only other slow powder. What...

    270/7RUM. Finally Finished. 👍

I still have a box of Wildcat 190 gr. .277 I didn't have the twist or the case volume to do it right. I went to Matrix 175's and then Zeroed in on Wildcat 169.5 VLD's. Pre 2008 economic crash things were easier to do. I was always the underdog at the 600 and 1000.

    300wm H1000 loads

IMR 7977 with mag primer or 7828 using only large rifle primers

    300wm H1000 loads

IMO there aren't any! h1000 is slow burning and made for heavier 300 WM. You can about fill the case with 85 grains of H1000 and push in a 168 grain bullet and only create maybe 52000 psi and get it going 3100 fps. H1000 will only shine in the 180 grain and above

What learned over time building AR's

I just got back from a New Mexico camping trip. A little dissapointed in the lack of PD's and the colonies that we did find were small and I decided to let them grow and multiply for years down the road. Lots of pretty country quading though with wild turkeys walking around. I was ready with...

Need advice on caliber for Moose and bear in Alaska.

Two shots and 2 DRT bears with my 458 win mag 26 inch hand loaded 510 grain RSP. The 458 have twice gotten on loan the African big 5 and everything was one shots For moose and plains game I use the 405 gr Barnes X. At a Safari Internation convention I talked to the Barnes bullet reps and...

Useful range of 5.56, 1:7 twist, 16" barrel? (loaded question, pun intended)

To shoot small patterns you need good optics and something really steady shooting. Go to the range and figure out if you can shoot small groups at say 200 yards. The M855 are AP rounds. not hunting or paper rounds. If you get into reloading RMR makes great 69 hpbt that I have bought for...

What learned over time building AR's

Nothing like sitting in front of the TV and hand priming three day old sun dried cases. I have an AR sighted in with RMR 69 grain hpbt. I'm taking a long trip to New Mexico for a week and I wanted to take a lot of these fully tested rounds. 26.2 grains of leverrevolution gets them going...

    6mm/220 swift?

The real problem with lots of older stuff is the avaibility of cases. I have some things that I have to make smaller calibers from the parent cases. The second problem with over bore hot rodded cases is barrel and case life. That is why I gave up on my 30-378 when it needed the third barrel...

What learned over time building AR's

Barrel twist rate is just a number like one rotation for every 7 inches of barrel. Let's then max pressure load 40 gr .224 and 80 grain pills out of a 20 inch barrel .223. The 40 grain comes out of a 20 inch barrel at approximatley 3700 fps and the 80 clear down at 2700 fps. The same barrel...

What learned over time building AR's

I saw these near a road while out in my side by side near my house. I didn't count but maybe 80 -100 Lake city .223 brass. So I resized and decapped. I then put them in my steel media wet tumbler for a couple of hours because of the small number. They came out beautiful like always like...
